Write Excel

Writes one or more tables into named sheets of an Excel workbook. It can add to an existing workbook and keep its other sheets.

Also known as: XLSX, multiple sheets

How it works

Each table wired into the node becomes one sheet in the list under Sheets: give it a sheet name, an optional position (the tab number, 1 = first) and tick or untick Header row. Type the Workbook file name (output.xlsx by default) and pick a Location; blank means the project folder. Write mode is Create by default, which stops if the file exists; Replace overwrites the workbook, keeping a .bak copy while Keep a backup of the file it replaces is ticked, and with Keep the workbook's other sheets ticked it replaces only the listed sheets. Append adds rows to the existing workbook.

On Append each sheet's target decides where the rows go: blank writes under the sheet's data, a cell such as B10 anchors a block there, a range such as A1:D6 must hold all the rows, and any other text is read as an Excel Table name. Append never overwrites a filled cell; no room is a run error. A sheet without a header row is appended by position, so the column count must match.

Settings

The Attributes panel of Write Excel, as in the app: the controls work, but nothing runs — there is no data behind it.

The same settings, as the Assistant writes them
{
  fileName: string
  directory?: string
  mode: "create"|"replace"|"append"
  backup?: boolean
  keepOtherSheets?: boolean
  sheets: [{ name: string, target?: string, position?: number, header?: boolean }]
}

position is a sheet's tab (1 = first): create/replace order the sheets by it, append places a sheet it creates there. header: false writes a sheet without a header row, and an append into it goes by position (same column count, in order). "create" stops if the file exists, "replace" overwrites the whole workbook, "append" adds rows to the existing one. backup (default true) makes "replace" rename the old workbook to "<name>.bak" first. keepOtherSheets (replace only, default false) replaces just the listed sheets and keeps the rest of the workbook. A sheet's `target` only applies to append: blank = under the sheet's data, "B10" = a block anchored there, "A1:D6" = a bounded range the rows must fit inside, anything else = an Excel Table name. Append never overwrites a filled cell: no room is a run error.

Example

A monthly workbook has a hand-made Summary sheet. Wire the orders and returns tables, name the sheets Orders and Returns, set Write mode to Replace and tick Keep the workbook's other sheets so Summary survives.
