Shape · IDs and hashing
UUID
Adds a random unique ID to every row. The IDs change on every run; use Surrogate Key when they must stay stable.
Also known as: GUID, unique ID
How it works
The only setting is Output column, uuid by default. Every row gets a new random version 4 UUID as 36-character text such as 3f2a9c1e-8b4d-4e6f-9a0b-2c7d5e1f8a4b. The values are generated fresh each run, so two runs over the same rows produce different ids; when an id must survive reruns, use Surrogate Key in hash mode.

Example
Give each row of a one-off export a unique id before loading it into a system that requires one: leave the output column as uuid.
